FAQ On Pregnancy Checkups And Labor

The Pregnancy Test

It is necessary to perform the urine pregnancy test a few days after the last period (3 or 4 days are enough). Using one of the numerous home testing kits that are available at the pharmacy, this test evaluates if the pregnancy hormone chorionic gonadotropin is present in the first pee of the morning.
We advise repeating the experiment after a few days if the results are negative, perhaps because it was done too soon. We prefer to utilize a blood test since it is more accurate and can be done sooner in some situations, especially if any assisted reproductive procedure has been used.

Possible Symptoms Observable

The first pregnancy symptom is the absence of menstruation during the expected days. However, many times and very early on, several conspicuous signs appear in the woman. Amongst the most frequent ones, we find:
Digestive alterations. The most typical and early ones are nausea and vomiting. Afterwards, it will be associated with constipation
Sensitive breasts with an increase in size
Sleepy and tiredness sensation
Perception of bad smells
Being moody

Why is it important to see your gynaecologist before seeking pregnancy?

We advise that care begins before pregnancy in order to have the ideal pregnancy, development, and birth of a healthy child.
We must thoroughly assess the expectant mother’s health, including her medical history, present ailments, psychological state, physical condition, the potential need for pharmaceutical supplements, and the best time to attempt pregnancy.
This is what we have called our “Pre-conception consultation”.

What is pre-pregnancy assessment about?

The pre-conception consultation consists of going through family and patient clinical histories as well as carrying out a complete gynaecological examination, including the cytology. In some cases, a blood test is required. The patient is also given some basic advice regarding lifestyle, healthy diet, exercise, and pharmacological supplements (for example, the taking of iodine and folic acid for at least a month before the pregnancy). In addition, she is informed about when and how a pregnancy test is carried out and about her first visit to the doctor upon becoming pregnant.

Who is pre-pregnancy assessment for?

This consultation is aimed at every woman who wants to become pregnant shortly (within the following 12 months), but is especially recommended for:

Women with problematic obstetric histories (miscarriage, foetal death, or a child born with a congenital disorder).
Couples at risk of genetic diseases (due to personal medical histories or known family medical backgrounds).
Women suffering from serious or chronic diseases.
Women of advanced age.
